The new squat, which has been occupied as part of the weekend of action for free culture and squatted autonomous spaces has been successfully taken. The place is listed grade II building, but is uncared for, decrepit and in much need of renovations. Squatters having moved in, were yesterday and today, doing much tidying, fixing, washing, sweeping and preparing.
On Saturday 12th in Dijon, France, the demonstration in support of squats and autonomous spaces (with a local focus on the Mat-Noir, threatened with eviction) ended up with a resquatting of the Toboggan (60, rue Charles Dumont), that had been evicted a year ago by the city council.
By doing so, we wish to uncover the council’s lies, which pretended some urgent matters implied putting an end to what was not only a housing space, but also a neighbourhood activity center. We invite people in Dijon to come and join us at the Toboggan on Saturday and Sunday for concerts, debates, food parties, games, film screenings, and so on.
This action is taking place within the scope of international days of resistance of squats and autonomous spaces.

Today there was a Reclaim The Streets in Amsterdam. There were more than 300 participants.

A party was organized and is still going strong outside and inside 128 Abel Smith Street in Wellington.
Bands are playing open air, DJs are going hard out, good turn out. There were some belly dancers, heaps of kids around and the fire brigade showed up at around 9pm and got rid of one of our fires which was all good. We like the fire brigade. all the kids got to have a go with the hoses
The social center is covered in banners, speeches are being made talking about autonomous space – our radical social center ’128′ – and talking about the Tuhoe Nation, an indigenous nation who never gave up soverignty and who last year, on 15th October, was invaded by the colonial forces of the state. 128 was raided too that day.

SQUAT THE WORLD
Since a few days, a group of people have occupied the Old County Hall in Nottingham as part of the international days of action for free culture and autonomous spaces. Also see feature article. The building, also known as ‘the Judges’ Lodgings’ has both a fascinating history and is a building of outstanding beauty. So what is its history? Who’s been living there over the years? And why has been sitting empty for so many years?
We have now occupied the building for this weekend’s events – so people
are needed down there tonight and tomorrow morning to prepare for the demo
and weekend workshops…
The building is the former Kingfield Heath stationer’s offices and
warehouse, between Bradford Street and Warwick Street in Digbeth (on the
50 bus route and very near the Spotted Dog pub). It’s an absolutely
enormous building, we are only using a small fraction of the space within
it. The “main entrance” is on Bradford St, but the entrance that we are
using is the one on Warwick St – about 50 yards up from the Spotted Dog,
on the right side of the road. Hopefully by tomorrow morning we will have
the “Free Space Brum” banner to advertise it from the outside.

Over the last three weeks people have been preparing an abandoned warehouse in Shoreditch to host events over the weekend of the days of action for squats and autonomous spaces. This week, artists have been transforming the place for an exhibition themed around land use, gentrification, housing and reclaiming space. The building opens on Saturday at 10am with a program of films, discussion and skill sharing till 7pm and again on Sunday. The space will also be hosting a freeshop and squatters estate agency.
In Madrid, a demonstration under the moto “For a life without burden, against Bologna, anti repression and for delight” went through the University quarter today between 12h and 14h.
This afternoon squatters in Nijmegen squatted the enormous building where the postoffice was set up. They want to use it for a giveawayshop, exhibtion space for artists and provide space to idealistic groups.
Today, at 14:00, around 60 squatters occupied a building of the National Museum at the Hobbemakade in Amsterdam.
Saturday 5 april about 200 protesters did a march past five former social centers in the centre of Amsterdam. The protest is the start sign for the international days of action for squats and autonomous spaces.
A new social centre has been opened in London for the events of the Days of Action For Squats and Autonomous Spaces. Currently nicknamed ‘two point two’ the new building is an exact illustration of the concepts embodied in the graphic designed for the call out. On one side sits the new squat and on the other hugh tower blocks and cranes. On the open land between sit yellow bulldozers as the wave of new development threatens not just the squat but the homes, business and culture of the local community around it.
