Radio coverage of the events and discussions about the squat movement by the autonomous pirate radio 1431AM

11th April

Radio program with a history of the squats in Greece, in which people from squats are asked to participate, either physically or remotely (via phone).. They will cover the current situation and the repression each of them may be facing.

12th April

A program, which will partially cover what’s happening in the actions around Europe (with the help of friends who are around) and there will be a discussion with people in the studio.

11th April

We’re planing to have a street party at 11th of April at 18 00 we’ve invited ppl for fire-show and trying to make a deal with free theater, also at that day we’ll have a small stencil workshop for those who don’t know what it is, and how to do it plus to all of this local samba band is going to make some kind of performance. Plus there would be some food and punk music.

12th April

At 12th of April we’re having a documentary movie screening with small speeches about todays squat situation in Europe. That’s all good luck to everyone, solidarity, Ciao.

DEMONSTRATE for clean, safe homes! Sat 12 April, 12.30pm, Alexandra Court Hostel, Hackney

Residents at Alexandra Court ‘temporary’ hostel accomodation in Hackney have had enough! Residents, mostly children, have to pay up to £350 per week for dirty corridors used by addicts and prostitutes, and rooms infested with mice and bed bugs. The heating and hot water hardly ever works, there’s no lock on the building gate, and only flimsy ones on individual rooms. The fire alarm frequently goes off in the middle of the night for hours at a time. Children are scared, and their education is suffering. The council and management promise change, but never deliver.

Residents are asking for YOUR support. Meet at Alexandra Court Hostel, Belgrade Road, Hackney, Saturday 12 April at 12.30pm, to march to Hackney Town Hall on Mare St, where the council have been asked to be present with a representative to hear demands.

A new place has opened in Eastern Czech Republic, in Ropice near Český Těšín. The first public action is going to take place during the action days. On 12th April – a concert (Tupak Amaru, Stolen lives, Mc Maty & locopoeta, Raincoat 34, Disney), fireshow, benefit flea market, and a lecture on Ungdomshuset and defence of autonomous spaces, an exhibition…

11.00 – 14.00: Tivoli, one of hollands most well-known mainstream
pop venues that started as a squat didn’t completely
forget about it’s roots and will open up with info-
stands, a tour through the building and a talk about
the history of the project.

14.00 – 18.00: Ubica, Utrecht’s oldest squat (16 years) will open up
with info’s, a small exposition and screen-printing

14.00 – 18.00: ACU, a legalised cultural center, will facilitate
a practical workshop on squatting.

14.00 – 22.00: The Flying Puppy, will show films and serve vegan
food.

There will be actions, demos, workshops, concerts, food, games and more.

We start the Action Days on Friday the 11th

FRIDAY 11TH APRIL:

* Free Cafe Event*

Reading Grassroots Action will hold a free cafe event in a privatised area of the riverside in the Town Centre. The action will aim to temporarily reclaim some space in the town centre, publicise further events and organisation and spread information on several linked up struggles from the autonomous spaces movements to the Zapatistas and from community gardens to Starbucks workers. Hopefully a film will be shown illustrating the global resistance against empire and good free food and Zapatista coffee will be given out.

SATURDAY 12TH APRIL:

* Common Ground Squatted Community Garden will be Re-Opened!*

Common Ground – a squatted community garden in Katesgrove area of Reading – was closed down by Reading Borough Council in October 07, following two previously unsucsessful eviction dates.

But on Sat 12th April, it will once again by opened to the public!

There will be a “tour de squat” in Rotterdam as part of the international days of action. We will take a leisurely bike tour past some of Rotterdam’s squats, both old and new. If the weather is good we will end up in the park with some food.

April 12, Saturday. Meet point 13.00, Noordplein.

Over the weekend, there will also be a crust punk gig at the Discomfortbar on Saturday evening and the usual eetcafe at the Poortgebouw on Sunday evening.

People from a number of cities across the UK have already announced that temporary autonomous spaces will open for the 11th and 12th of April 2008. A group of people will open a temporary autonomous space in Nottingham city centre. We want this (hopefully) vibrant and public space to be an exuberant response to news of a final closure of the ASBO.

This is a one-off event in a new venue which will form part of the April days of international action in support of autonomous spaces (april2008.squat.net).

We are sending this general call out to artists who can contribute to the gallery part of the event. There are no restrictions on the medium, or size (being sensible of course), but we are primarily looking for artwork which keeps the theme of the event…
